Mr. Brian McKenna, the youngest of eight children, grew up in Nassau County, Long Island. Brian shared a close relationship with his father, bonding over their deep love of animals. When it came time for college, Brian decided to focus on what he enjoyed. Brian earned an Associates of Science Degree in Veterinary Technology from Farmingdale University on Long Island; the curriculum offered hands-on experience at both a working farm and a working animal-friendly laboratory. Employed as a full-time New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician, Brian continued his education, receiving a Bachelors of Science Degree in Veterinary Technology from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry.
Brian has accumulated over 20 years of experience in the Veterinary industry. Before Long Island Veterinary Specialists was established, Brian and Dr. Dominic Marino were coworkers at a local veterinary hospital. Their mutual respect and friendship has endured throughout the development, growth and expansion of LIVS. Brian’s vast knowledge was gained by performing almost every job function in a rapidly expanding, technologically advanced and customer focused 24/7 emergency and specialty referral practice. In 2011, Brian was appointed the Long Island Veterinary Specialists Hospital Administrator. Brian focuses on high level strategic planning and the future direction and growth of LIVS. Brian is highly respected in the Veterinary community, and serves on the New York State Board of Veterinary Medicine, Office of Professionals. He also serves on the Board for the Veterinary Technology Department at Suffolk Community College.
Brian is married and now has three children of his own, all of which share his deep love of animals. Their busy household includes their two rescues - a beagle-mix dog named Jolly and an embarrassingly overweight cat, Toosday.
